It’s been 5 years since the first iteration of SPR launched. Since then we’ve survived a pandemic, gone virtual, watched the rise and fall of many digital platforms and witnessed the good, bad, and the ugly of what people can say and do when social media is used as a weapon. We saw the beauty in families reconnecting, the resurrection of the family dinner, and free will exercised as TVs were turned off and storytelling turned on.
Inspired as I always am, by music (a significant part of my life from a very young age), I listened to the record (yes, I said record) Abbey Road. Filled with memories, iconic sounds, and lyrics, it reminded me of a story my father shared as I started my first company. “Punkin, you are like no other. You don’t look like anyone else; you don’t sound like anyone else; you are unique. Go out there and show the world.” His favorite Beatle’s song was “Here Comes the Sun.” One of the singles from the B-side.
There is something magical about the B-Side of an album. Hidden magic. A song with special meaning. There’s the physical act of turning the record over, lifting the needle and listening to the other side. Then you hear it, that one song. It’s usually got a story attached to it; a reason it ended up there.
I find the same is true when helping executives and companies find their voice. The true value they bring and their B-side. Where’s their magic? Their mojo? I often find it’s there somewhere, hidden, yet present. Let’s find your B-side.
